DNA & HEART
This is a work about photographer Fangxin Luo's (also known as Ray) familial relationships. The photographer was raised in a Chinese home that was both traditional and modern. Like most Chinese families, she feels imprisoned and afflicted by her overprotective parents and bloodline ties, but she also benefits from her parents' educated style of thinking and acting, which differs from the traditional ones in several ways. In such a hectic pattern of family life together, the photographer becomes lost and confused. Her work contains both current and vintage images of herself and her parents. The work's combination of black and white images and red stitching, as well as the merging of old and new photos, expresses her complicated connection with her parents.
